Unveiling the Evolution: Journey from Pre-Production to the Polished Production
As we conclude the final chapter of Workshop 02: Train the Trainer series, it’s time to reflect on the substantial journey we’ve undertaken in bringing virtual production to life.
Nord University’s directorial influence in this chapter marks the culmination of months of dedication, learning, and hands-on experience in crafting a video that represents collaborative innovation.
From Vision to Reality: A Workshop Series Retrospective
The journey commenced with Workshop 01 in March 2023, a crucial moment when educators and experts from the VPSN project’s partners gathered at Breda University of Applied Sciences. For many, this marked our introduction to virtual production, engaging in pre-production strategies, understanding the equipment, and setting the stage for subsequent workshops with the intent to “train the trainer” – building experience among educators.
Fast forward to Workshop 02 in May 2023, where our efforts intensified in refining our creative vision. This phase involved refining concepts, adapting to sudden changes and constraints, directing actors, and navigating the complexities of virtual production technology.
The Evolutionary Stages: Pre-Production to Post-Production
Reflecting on the initial stages, our pre-workshop activities pushed our limits and boundaries of what is possible within virtual production with limited equipment, surroundings, and experience Mood boards and storyboards guided our steps, showcasing our commitment to exploring uncharted territories. However, challenges emerged, revealing the nuances of working within the virtual realm. We grappled with the limitations of the LED screen, aiming to bridge the gap between imagination and execution.
Troubleshooting became essential during Workshop 02. Issues surfaced, from limited panel areas to manoeuvring shots within the XR stage. But with every challenge emerged an opportunity for innovation! Adaptation and learning became integral to our progress.
Nord University’s Directorial Contribution
Amidst the collaborative efforts, Nord University’s directing steered the production towards its final stages. With a clear vision in mind, the collaborative efforts on set moved the production forward on track, and their expertise in production and post-production led to the selection of their version for the final production. Their direction provided coherence and refinement to our collective efforts.
