about VPSN

Virtual Production Studio Network (VPSN) 2.0 builds on the success and findings of the original VPSN initiative, expanding its scope to meet the evolving needs of Virtual Production education and industry practice.

Funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, VPSN 2.0 brings together six partners across higher education and industry to advance accessible, industry-focused, and sustainable training for educators and students.

Drawing on research, workshops, and lessons learned from the first iteration, the project strengthens training efficiency, develops essential soft skills, embeds green Virtual Production practices, and supports experimentation, artistic creativity, and the integration of emerging production tools.

Why Virtual Production and Education?

The current media landscape is undergoing a significant shift, where digital processes and technologies are breaking down distance and physical barriers that previously limited cooperation possibilities. Virtual Production, an innovative technology that brings filmmaking into the digital space, allows us to create ultra-realistic digital backdrops and assemble scenes from various parts. This not only makes film, game, and art creation more affordable but also enables collaboration across great distances.

We understand the increasing demand for VP in the industry, with specialist positions becoming more common. To truly embrace the digital transformation and ensure the readiness and capability of the European creative higher education sector, we aim to provide a thorough understanding of the potential capacity of VP systems. By collaborating with various fields, we identify valuable inputs and perspectives on using Virtual Production Studios (VPS) across multiple industries.

our Mission

Knowledge

Igniting insights through research and analysis.

Talent

Nurturing creativity, curiosity and expertise for future creators.

Industry

Bridging the gap between education and the professional world.

Sharing

Empowering growth through open collaboration and dissemination.

Through VPSN 2.0, our focus is on supporting educators and institutions as Virtual Production continues to evolve across real-time workflows, hybrid and remote production models, and increasingly complex creative and technical teams.

VPSN 2.0 responds to industry changes by strengthening the Virtual Production Studio Network, which enables Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and industry partners to connect, share knowledge, and adapt collectively to changing production realities.

The project develops flexible frameworks, field-specific learning guides, and open resources that support educators in designing curricula aligned with real-world workflows, institutional structures, and evolving industry expectations. Rather than prescribing tools or fixed pipelines, VPSN 2.0 emphasises production literacy, collaboration, and informed decision-making across creative, technical, and production roles.

Our frameworks enable diverse HEIs, each with different levels of access, infrastructure, and expertise to engage with Virtual Production in ways that are relevant to their context. As studios increasingly operate across distributed teams and rely less on in-house training, the role of education in preparing adaptable, production-ready talent becomes critical.

VPSN 2.0 bridges this gap by providing educators with access to Virtual Production studios, shared knowledge, and case-based insights, while fostering a common understanding of contemporary workflows, collaboration practices, and sustainable approaches to production.
