Sharing that knowledge helps strengthen the wider virtual production community.
A recent Knowledge Gem, written by Ella Bets of Breda University of Applied Sciences, offers an excellent example.
The article explores the use of virtual production during the making of Right to Fight, a documentary directed by Georgina Cammalleri. While much of the documentary was filmed on location, LED volumes were used for pick-up interviews, demonstrating how virtual production can support documentary filmmaking in a practical and considered way.
Drawing on interviews with director Georgina Cammalleri, documentary participant Pat Pinder and VFX Supervisor Stradco, the article examines the creative decisions, production workflow and technical considerations behind the project. Rather than presenting virtual production as a replacement for traditional filmmaking, it illustrates how the technology can be integrated where it offers genuine creative and logistical value.
The topic will be familiar to those who attended Virtual Production Gathering, where many of these ideas were discussed. The published Knowledge Gem expands on that discussion, bringing together perspectives from the production team to create a practical resource for educators, students and industry professionals.
